Can You Infuse Alcohol Too Long? [Solved]

Wow, that’s a lesson learned the hard way! Steeping for two weeks was definitely too long; it sounds like it ended up tasting more like perfume than fruit. But hey, no worries - I’ve got your back. In my post about infusing spirits, I included estimates for steeping times so you can avoid making the same mistake. Just remember to taste as you go and you’ll be good to go!

  1. Start with a Neutral Alcohol: Begin by selecting a neutral alcohol, such as vodka or grain alcohol, as the base for your infusion. This will provide the most flavor-neutral canvas for your infusion.

  2. Choose Your Flavoring Agents: Select the ingredients you want to use to infuse flavor into your alcohol. Popular choices include herbs, spices, fruits, vegetables and even coffee beans or tea leaves.

  3. Prepare Your Flavoring Agents: Depending on what you’ve chosen to infuse into your alcohol, you may need to prepare it in some way before adding it to the bottle of alcohol. For example, if using fresh fruit or vegetables you may need to chop them up into small pieces before adding them in order for their flavors and aromas to be released more easily during the infusion process.

  4. Add Flavoring Agents To Alcohol: Once all of your flavoring agents are prepared and ready to go, add them directly into the bottle of neutral alcohol that you’ve selected as your base spirit for this infusion project!

  5. Seal Bottle & Shake Well: Make sure that the lid is securely fastened onto the bottle before shaking it vigorously for several minutes in order to ensure that all of those delicious flavors are evenly distributed throughout the entire bottle of infused liquor!

6 Allow Infusion To Take Place: Now comes one of my favorite parts – letting time do its thing! Place your sealed bottle somewhere cool and dark (

Infusing alcohol is a great way to add flavor and complexity to your favorite drinks. It’s easy to do - just soak your ingredients in the alcohol for a few days or even weeks, depending on how strong you want the flavor. The longer you infuse it, the more intense the flavor will be. So if you’re looking for something really special, go ahead and let it steep for a while!
