But don’t worry - there are some things you can do to help minimize the damage when this happens. So keep reading to find out what to do if your perm gets wet!
What Happens If A Perm Gets Wet? [Solved]
If you get your hair permed, it’s important to keep it dry afterwards. Otherwise, all that work will go down the drain and your hair will be flat. So don’t take any chances - avoid getting your hair wet for at least 48 hours after a perm!
Wetting: When a perm gets wet, the chemicals used to create the curls can be weakened or washed away, resulting in limp or straight hair.
Heat: Heat from blow-drying or styling tools can also cause a perm to lose its shape and become less curly.
Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can also cause a perm to become less curly over time as the sun’s UV rays break down the chemical bonds that hold the curls in place.
Swimming: Chlorine and salt water from swimming pools and oceans can strip away moisture from your hair, making it more prone to damage and causing your perm to lose its shape faster than normal.
Hair Products: Using too many products on permed hair such as gels, mousses, sprays, etc., can weigh down your curls and make them look limp or straighten out completely over time if not properly cared for with regular deep conditioning treatments and trims every 6-8 weeks
When it rains, your perm can get wet and that’s not a good thing! It’ll ruin all the hard work you put into getting it just right. Ugh, so annoying! But don’t worry - just grab an umbrella and you’ll be good to go.
